Synopsis: For this years halloween (late, I know) Nino decides to see whether there is a way to scare their leader in a haunted house...
“It’s time we did another haunted house episode, don’t you think?”
“Are you serious?” Sho raised an eyebrow in disbelief at the prankster, wondering what he was up to.
“Aren’t you afraid you’ll scream the most again?” Aiba grinned from next to him, nudging him with his elbow.
“That was your fault, not mine.” Nino crossed his arms, huffing at the same time at the injustice of paying for Sho’s souvenirs because Aiba had made him jump more than anything else. “And anyway, I would make sure I wasn’t paired with you again, I didn’t scream when I was with Jun and Ohno that much, did I?”
“No, you just stood between us and made sure we went first.” Jun smirked, unable to resist even if he got a glare for his efforts.
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Nino looked at Ohno for some support but he just shrugged before leaving the room to go grab a drink. But this made Nino sit up straight, his facial expression turning mischievous. He’d been waiting for him to disappear for a while.
“What exactly are you planning?”
Nino turned to Jun who looked like he didn’t know whether to be curious or worried. “Me? I’m not planning anything…much.”
“Nino.” Jun carried a threat in his voice, not that he needed to once Aiba got curious and started pestering Nino for answers.
“Alright, alright.” Nino rolled his eyes, pretending to be annoyed with them even though he was excited with his new idea. He waited a few more seconds to add to the moment before telling them.
“I want to see Ohno scared.”
~A few days later~
“This isn’t going to work, you know.”
“Of course it is, unlike you I think I know how to make Ohno panic.” Nino smiled innocently as Ohno looked over at him and Jun.
“You think?” Sho butted in, looking worried. “Nino, I know this is meant to be a joke, but don’t really scare him, OK?”
“I know, I know. I don’t mean that I’ve found out like he’s scared of snakes or something and filled the place with them.” Nino pouted; annoyed that they’d think he’d do something to actually hurt their leader. “Everything will be alright at the end and no harm done, OK?”
“Fine, that’s good.” Sho smiled, relaxing. The camera crew and staff had all already been informed of the true intentions of the special so he knew that for them the haunted house should hold nothing more than a few jumpy moments, unless they decided to turn their trick against them and scare them as well which he didn’t put past their co-hosts.
“Do we have to do this again?” Aiba whined, obviously gullible enough, or intelligent enough, to realise that they were in for a scare too. He blinked as he felt a pat on his back, Ohno’s way of reassuring him as he made his way over to them and joined the conversation. He grinned brightly. “Can I go with Ohno?”
“No.” Jun froze as Ohno turned to him confused. “I mean, we’re going separately this time, aren’t we?”
“Nope.” Nino’s smirk grew at the simultaneous shocked looks from Sho and Jun who had both obviously assumed. “Ohno and Jun are together and the rest of us are in a three.” He put on a hurt look. “Apparently they want to know if me and Aiba can be brave with Sho around as well.”
“So…I’m going around with Ohno?”
“Don’t you want to?” Ohno tilted his head, finally speaking.
Jun gave Nino a suspicious look before answering. “No, that’s not it…” He quickly cast around for an answer. “It’s just that we’ve been together on all of these haven’t we?”
“Hmm?” Ohno blinked at him, dazed before it clicked in. “Oh yeah, that’s weird.”
“Ehh~?” Aiba whined playfully, catching on to Nino’s mood. “I think Jun’s playing with us and asked to go with Ohno again.”
“Maybe.” Nino pretended to look shocked at this revelation. “That would make sense. Jun-chan scared he’d make a fool of himself if he didn’t have Ridaa to rely on.”
“What? T-that’s not it.” Jun flushed, not liking the way Ohno was smiling knowingly at him. He spun to Sho. “Help me out here.”
“I’m not getting involved.” Sho held his hands up, trying his hardest not to laugh at the fact that Jun seemed an unknowing victim in this whole set-up too. He looked around as a staff member signalled at them. “I think we’re about to start.” He nudged Ohno forward, knowing Jun would kill them all if he didn’t get a chance to ask Nino what was going on.
“Nino-”
“Don’t worry, Jun-chan.” Nino patted Jun on the back, trying not to laugh at the rigid posture of the man. “Seriously, you’re the reason this is all going to work. Trust me; you’re just going to be with him to make sure he panics.”
“Why me?”
“Because Aiba would forget what he was doing and panic for real and Sho would feel guilty halfway through and tell him what was going on. So, you in?” Nino waited, knowing the answer, Jun wouldn’t be able to miss out on the opportunity of helping out with something like this. He hoped though that his lies on why it had to be Jun had not been noticeably wrong because if he smelt a rat in this plan he’d back out as quickly as possible. How could he tell him that being so close to Ohno he just knew without being told what he felt towards the younger man? Truthfully he had first realised on the last haunted house show they’d done, the parts that went unnoticed by the cameras. How Ohno had kept an eye on Nino because he could see he was scared before they’d already started but how he’d also kept trying to go ahead of Jun even when he was pretending not to be scared at all, as if wanting to be ahead of them looking after him. Or the moments off camera when they’d been made jump and Ohno had actually asked if they were alright, though Nino could tell who the questions were aimed at. Obviously Jun hadn’t noticed at all, as he’d still acted in the same way, naturally quiet and unfazed as per usual, but there had been a purpose that Nino hadn’t seen before that had him half forgetting that he was being scared. Nino turned back to Jun when he still looked like he was debating. “Well?” He tried to look impatient, knowing that if he showed anything on his face about what he planned then he’d give himself away.
“Fine, but you should have told me before now.” Jun pushed past him in annoyance before getting himself ready for the cameras.
“Sorry Jun, you’d have asked too many questions on what you’d have to do if I’d given you more time to think about it.” Nino chuckled to himself. Jun was definitely going to kill him after this, well that was if it didn’t show him the truth.
