This is the first time I've had to rant about work but I'm gonna. Let me give you all a little heads up as to what I actually do. I normally spend my days sitting at a computer desk working on excel spreadsheets (updating, creating...). Recently I've spent a lot of time working on this report called the GSR (Gas Sales Service Rate). Essentially that's what we have to charge customers on a per unit used basis based on our fixed cost and the current cost of natural gas. The GSR was due today so it had to be done yesterday so my supervisor could look over it (and it's good that she did since it was the very first time I had ever done one of these reports). I knew that there was a lot of work to do so I got in to the office at around 7:20am (the day normally starts at 8am for me). I'm really glad that I went in early cause it was taking a lot longer to do the checks and stuff then I originally thought. I ended up working through my lunch break and not finishing til about 4:45pm (the day ends at 5pm for me). By that point I was physically and mentally exhausted. I tidied up my desk and since there was nothing I could get done in 10 minutes, I packed it up for the day and left. Today, my supervisor Jenn comes into my office and told me that I shouldn't be leaving early. I looked at her with disbelief for a moment and explained that I had come in 40 min early and I worked through my lunch break. She told me that that was part of the job and I shouldn't leave until 5pm. I'm sorry but what the fuck? I put in a 9 1/2 hour workday and she complains that I left 10 (8 if you want to be technical) minutes early! Who the fuck does she think she is? And just so everyone knows, I'm salaried and hence I don't get paid overtime for all the extra hours I put in. (I'm the type of person who gets to work early everyday.)

What does this mean for Chesapeake Utilities? They are now going to have a very un-cooperative employee on their hands. Normally I have no problem doing a little extra work cause I know it's appreciated. Well, apparently not. From now on I'm not going to start working until 8am everyday and right at 5pm I'm out the door. I will take a lunch break everyday and I will not do any extra work for them.

Fuck them. I'm glad I'm moving to the DC area and getting a new job.
