Stargate Atlantis ; Teyla/Kate ; Universal Blossom - a Fanmix

[Even though she was surrounded by people who loved her, looked up to her, but Teyla had to keep herself at arm's length from them. She could not let herself get too attached, no matter how much she cared for her people and wanted them to be safe. The wraith could come again, come and take her people, take so many people. She could never let herself get too close, lest it be her best frind, a lover, who went next.]

[Teyla's POV]

Gold and silver rings and stones
Dances slowly of the moon
No-one else can know
She stands alone
Sleeping dreams will reach for her
She cannot say the words they need
She knows she's alone
And she is free

Ocean Gypsy - Renaissance

[She has travelled all throughout her galaxy, to planets where it rained most of the year, to others where shade was a blessing from the heat that pounded the dry ground. Kate Heightmeyer, a Tau'ri from another galaxy, has only travelled through the Stargate once that Teyla knows of, and that was to come to Atlantis. Kate says she misses Earth and Teyla can agree- she misses Athos, but neither of them are going to be able to get home any time soon.]

[Teyla's POV]

I met so many
People in my life
I've got many friends
Who can care for me
Universal traveler

Universal Traveler - Air

[Kate finds Teyla fascinating- and not just on a personal level, but on a professional level, too. She wants to ask her, what's it like to travel around the galaxy so naturally? How do you relate to us from Earth? Who would consider your closest companion? But Kate must keep those questions to herself so to make sure others (do you want to have lunch with me? Do you drink coffee? Can you show me around your people's new village?) come out.]

[Kate's POV]

I don't want to be shy
Can't stand it anymore
I just want to say 'Hi'
To the one I love
Cherry blossom girl

Cherry Blossom Girl - Air

[But Teyla finds Kate slightly fascinating, too. She sits in that funny room that smells of flowers Teyla can't remember and talks to people. When Teyla finally sits down opposite her to talk about her dreams, she finds it difficult to keep on topic. Kate's eyes are a startling colour (she cannot remember not one of her people whose eyes are that blue) and her hair is much lighter than the straw her people used to fill pillows with when the fur from their cattle is too short to shave. And skin that soft and pale- that would never stay if she were to travel with them in the heat of the planets. Teyla smiles to herself as she leaves- she is glad Kate is from Earth. She would not want that skin to be damaged from the sun (or suns in some cases).]

[Teyla's POV]

Come in, come in
Come into my world I've got to show
Show show you
Come into my bed
I've got to know
Know know you
I have dreams of orca whales and owls
But I wake up in fear
You will never be my
You will never be my fool
Will never be my fool

Hotel Song - Regina Spektor

[Kate finds ways to talk to Teyla. She chooses just the right time to go get lunch- most of the tables are taken up, and Teyla is about to leave and, well, Teyla's a polite person, she wouldn't want Kate sitting by herself and they know each other well enough, don't they? And Kate makes sure Teyla speaks to her at least once a month to talk about her dreams, because it's good to keep a track on them. And the more she talks to Teyla, the more Kate finds herself drawn to her. Her heart pounds slightly faster, her mouth goes dry and she finds herself licking her lips a lot more around her. Her fingers dig into her pants as she sits opposite the Athosian woman at lunch and her legs squeeze together tight, and if her voice cracks slightly when she speaks, it's purely just coincidence.]

[Kate's POV]

You're never boring,
You're always changing,
You feel amazing
Take me
Lead the way.
I'm serious
Delirious
So into this
Let time slip away

Obsession (I Love You) - Amiel

[Tau'ri clothes are odd and rough on her skin and Teyla prefers to wear her on. The shirts are too loose, the pants too tight and there is some peculiar item that she thinks she is meant to wear over her breasts but it is so uncomfortable that she never complains about binding her breasts again. But Kate looks happy enough in her 'jeans' and 'T-shirt' that Teyla attempts to put on a pair of the jeans a few days later.]

[Teyla's POV]

She's Venus in blue jeans
Mona Lisa with a ponytail
She's a walkin' talkin' work of art
She's the girl who stole my heart
My Venus in blue jeans
Is the Cinderella I adore
She's my very special angel too
A fairy tale come true

Venus in Blue Jeans - Jimmy Clanton

[Teyla comes to her one day and says she doesn't want to speak about her dreams any more. Kate nods and says that's okay, what would she like to speak about instead? Teyla shakes her head and when Kate offers her a seat, Teyla declines. She doesn't want to speak to her on a professional level anymore. A personal level, then? Kate asks. She speaks to some of the expedition members over coffee as that's the only time they have free. When she was on Earth she sometimes met clients for lunch as they were more comfortable that way. Teyla just gives a smile, thanks Kate for all the help and leaves the office. When Teyla's gone, Kate purses her lips tight together and sinks into her seat.]

[Kate's POV]

If you leave, don't leave now
Please don't take my heart away
Promise me just one more night
Then we'll go our separate ways
We've always had time on our sides
Now it's fading fast
Every second every moment
We've gotta make it last

If You Leave - Nada Surf

[Teyla wonders if she made the right decision. As leader of Athos, she has had to make many quick decisions, and in most cases they have been the right one. With a firm nod of her head, she decides that yes, cancelling all meetings with Kate was the best thing to do. But she finds herself walking in circles before meeting Rodney and asking if he had seen Kate. He speaks to the psychologist often enough, he would know. Rodney eyes her before making a jerking motion with his thumb that Teyla has found herself doing lately (she has picked up many strange Tau'ri habits that she has been caught upon) and tells her that he saw Kate near the eastern pier. Thanking him, Teyla heads off.

The sun is nearing the horizon when she reaches the pier. In the red sunlight, Kate's pale hair seems to glow. She looks surprised when she sees Teyla.

'I would like to continue speaking with you,' Teyla says.

'Professionally?' Kate asks.

'Personally.'

Kate smiles and Teyla wonders if she's blushing or if it's only the light.]

[Teyla's POV]

Oh, baby
I can't fight this feeling anymore
Drives me crazy when I try to
So call my name and take my hand
Can you make my wish, baby, your command?

I Wanna Be With You - Mandy Moore

[With the wraith taking the lives of so many people, the aim of many societies is to simply procreate. It's the only way for many civilizations to survive, Kate has found out, and in some ways she can agree. Although Teyla touches her hand when she laughs sometimes, and although she seems to find it easier to talk to her, and when Kate has to go back to her office to meet someone or Teyla has to go on a mission, Teyla wishes her goodbye and as she walks off she's glowing, Kate feels as though Teyla doesn't feel the same way Kate does. She feels as though Athos would have similar beliefs as many other societies in the Pegasus Galaxy, and she doesn't dare broach the subject with Teyla in case it broke whatever fragile friendship they have.]

[Kate's POV]

I dream of worlds
Where you'd understand
And I dream a
Million sleepless nights
I dream of fire when
You're touching my hand
But it twists into smoke
When I turn on the light
I'm speechless and faded
It's too complicated
Is this how the book ends,
Nothing but good friends?

You Don't See Me - Josie and the Pussycats

['Kate,' Teyla says in a way that Kate can't decipher, 'I want you to know that I value your friendship and I would like to continue our... relationship.'

Kate opens her mouth but can't find anything to say. So she smiles instead and nods her head. Taking hold of her cup of coffee, she takes a sip to allow her time to think.

'I value your friendship, too, Teyla.'

Teyla smiles and folds her hands on her lap. 'On Athos,' she says in that some way Kate can't figure out, 'certain... relationships are considered odd. They are not forbidden but are generally accepted in time. And if the leader, like myself, makes it clear that they... that I am accepting of it, then it is more likely to be accepted.'

Kate nods slowly, starting to cotton on to what Teyla was saying.

'And our... relationship...?' Kate prompts.

'I believe if it were to progress, my people would accept it. They see you as wise. Maybe rude, but they think many of the Tau'ri as rude.' Teyla clasps her hands together and bows her head. 'But I am certain that it can work.']

[Both POVs]

For a shield from the storm,
For a friend, for a love
to keep me safe and warm
I turn to you.
For the strength to be strong,
For the will to carry on
For everything you do,
for everything that's true
I turn to you.

I Turn To You - Christina Aguilera

[They're on the mainland- there was a celebration being held and the expedition members were invited. A giant bonfire had been lit, and after dinner and dancing, the remaining party-goers started to clean up. Some gathered dishes to wash by the shore, others rolled up blankets and brushed off leaves, twigs and dirt. Teyla sat beside Kate on a fallen log, their hands touching as they watched the scene before them. Teyla tapped Kate's knee lightly and when Kate turned her head, Teyla kissed her softly on the corner of her mouth, then the other side before kissing her gently on the lips.

'We must head back,' Teyla said.

'Yes,' Kate replied, guessing the kiss must have been Athosian tradition. Teyla stood and held out her hand. As Kate took it and stood, she felt eyes- Athosian and Tau'ri alike- on them as they headed to the waiting Puddle Jumper.]

[Kate's POV]

She's saving me
I don't even think she knows it
Its a strange way to show it
As distant as last nights dream unravels
She's saving me
I'm a very lost soul
I was born with a hole in my heart
The size of my land locked travels

She's Saving Me - Indigo Girls

['I would like to see Earth one day,' Teyla says as she rests her elbows on the balcony wall early one morning. She had dragged Kate up out of bed early to meditate (though Kate ending up nodding off as she sat against the wall).

'I'm sure you'll see it someday,' Kate replies.

'Yes, I imagine I will.'

'Though the sunrises can't compare,' Kate sighs as she rests against the wall, her fingers threading through Teyla's.]

[Both POV's]

See the pyramids along the nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember, darling, all the while
You belong to me
See the marketplace in old algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me
