I can't wait until this episode airs in the UK. I was reading the episode discussion over at dekker_dialy while it was airing and was freaking out at the plot twists. And I still like Riley.
The episode is awesome, though. I can't remember who said it, but someone said it's like Brothers of Nabulus- it's slow moving at first but the last fifteen minutes are action packed. The whole episode is good, and it involves a lot of character development and setting up of further threads down the line.
I can't see why a lot of people seem to dislike Riley. Yeah, she's not part of the Core Four, but neither is Ellison or Catherine (or Cromartie for that matter). I still think she represents to John what he wants- to not be pulled into the mess of a life that is John Connor, and a chance to be normal. This plot twist of course screws up this dream, but he doesn't know it yet. I like Riley because she's fun, and, even if Jesse has got her fingers in the pie (ohhh the mental images I've now got), she still seems to genuinely like John because he's John- Connor or Baum or however she now sees him.
No prob! I've got a lot of other thoughts that I'm still trying to figure out (like Jesse's slightly creepy way of how she brushed Riley's hair, much like the way Cameron did in Allison From Palmdale), but those are the main ones I posted. I don't usually post my long-winded thoughts on LJ, but hooray, inspiring thoughts in others!
hmm i didn't think about it like this. i guess though, for me, she wasn't a resistance fighter like Derek or Jesse, but a poor kid just slammed into the middle of it. More like Allison (Cameron's inspiration). Someone who watches her family die then gets thrown into all this. Someone Jesse would just grab up out of a group of scared teen girls to go on this insane mission.
but Jesse seems like a manipulative bitch so seducing (non sexual) a poor orphaned foster kid into feeling like she has a purpose in life would be right up her alley. hmmmmmmmmm.
If Riley is from the future, then yeah, I'd much rather than have her be just a kid who's found herself caught up in it than a resistance fighter. Not everybody can be a fighter or a soldier, and it would be nice to see it from the perspective of someone who doesn't want to be in at all. I guess that's what I liked about Charlie Fisher, too. He took a different role in the game- that of someone who was with the machines.

It's gonna be intresting when John finds out, for sure. And Derek as well - though I think he's reaction will involve guns :D
