Not at all honey! You didn't overreact. People who are unable to respect other people's beliefs are ignorant and they are the people who have allowed things such as the Spanish Inquisition and the Holocaust to take place

A-Man-Duh, I don't think your grandpa meant it to be so blatantly against Muslims in general. Many people, (fueled by the media, and the Bush administration) believe that all Arab nations are terrorists.I get into this same arguement with my dad and brothers. Although I can also see his perspective because, I see a lot of our "Holy traditions" such as prayer and celebrating certain holidays are being forbidden in schools, government, and basically any other public place. In essense they are taking away some of our rights to give them to others. To be basically thrown in our face, by situations such as the postage stamp. If we attempted to create a Christmas stamp or an Easter stamp, featuring Christ, people would be outraged because we were flaunting the Christian view of things.
I promise I'm not taking your Grandpa's side on this, because he was decidely wrong in assuming that all Arabs (Muslims and Islams) are bad evil doers. I just happen to understand his point of view, and can see where he is coming from.
See, the thing is, Darcy...there HAVE been christian stamps...a couple with the Madonna on it, and some with Santa Claus.
I looked it up, and found that the stamp is actually a non-issue...meaning you have to ASK for it; it's not going to be in a book of stamps that you buy from the post office or the grocery store.
And he sent me an e-mail, apologizing later. It was just quite a blow to take.
A-Man-Duh, Good point, and I'm glad he apologized. Religion is a very touchy topic. People go to war over it. That's ironic in a humorless, tragic way, and tolerance is always the answer. ~Darcy
