It's both incredible and awful. I find it awesome that anti-violence Buddhist monks feel so passionately about something that they're willing to withstand such harsh reactions, even death. I also think it's incredibly sad that they are willing to protest but are not allowed by their government to speak freely. They don't see the humanity in it, they just see people stirring the pot, so to speak.
