So glad to put that week to rest, stressful bitch that it was. The lake is safe, I pulled the enormous amount of money that I owed Amex out of my ass miraculously, and that cold that was my body's way of dealing with both those issues is gone. Glory be.

Gathering my Fall clothes that are too heavy for this pretty spring weather, hauling them to the ( Read more... )

I just so happened to be listening to the Pixies "Surfer Rosa" album when I read this...specifically, the song "Gigantic" with Kim Deal singing. So, yeah, missing out on seeing The Breeders is too bad...

My favorite album ever. And my favorite album cover. finefrenzy February 14 2005, 13:25:21 UTC
Can you believe I let that happen? Shameful.I've seen the Pixies many times but I really wanted to see Kim and her twin doing their thing.
It was one of their last shows, too.

Yes, yes, shameful :P And, yes, it's an excellent album and a nice cover as well :) I actually just bought the CD about a week ago...I think I've bought about five different CDs within the past week. That's not good considering I have no source of income and it's just money from student loans, heh. Anyway, yeah, I had only started listening to the pixies a few months ago so I only had Doolittle and the Wave of Mutilation Best Of album.

So, the letter from the guy who said he owned the lake was legit? That's kind of odd. What was the situation?

So odd.It turned out he does own it, but everyone I spoke with from the Army Corp of Engineers to the storm water run-off guy said that he could never develop it. So I felt safe about just ignoring him, but the other 5 houses that are way over on the other side sent a representitive over to talk to us about buying it collectively with a better safe than sorry attitude. They were so persuasive that we started thinking that everybody except us was in on this thing and we were being scammed. So, supposedly they put a bid in on Friday and we are waiting to hear if we are chipping in the $500 or $1000 that we are expected to. It's weird, I don't know why everyone wants to do it when it seemed safe by what I was told.It can't be declared a mitigated wetland b/c it turns out it was a manmade lake, although over 30 years old.

Do you know what Gigantic is about? Have you ever seen or heard of that French novel from I think the 1700s about a man who gets lost in a big,big mouth? It's like the French Gulliver's Travels.
