i am beginning to feel like i need to leave boulder. i never really felt like this before. boulder has always been 'home' and comfortable and comforting, if a bit dull sometimes. but it feels so small, so cloying now and so full of shadows of the past. i want to go somewhere i can escape from the past and just BE. i was doing this linguistics ( Read more... )

Is it really better to escape the past? I think no matter where one goes, their memories will go with them. Sure, there would be temporary relief, but eventually the shadows would catch up. Of course, this is all my personal hypothesis on the matter, especially because I don't know exactly which shadows you are speaking of.

I read part of this book titled Time's Arrows, and it too discussed this cyclical time belief. Intriguing, isn't it? As they say, "History repeats itself," and I think this is often the case. I don't know that everything is a cycle, though. Maybe to some extent within our life spans there are cycles (Think: the daily grind), but then we die, and I don't believe in reincarnation, at least not in the generic sense. Looking at it scientifically, perhaps some plants and animal remains are born again in that they help fertilize the ground which grows more plants which feeds more animals, but other than that ( ... )
