well if you think about it, numbers were created by men(humans) so really numbers dont exist at all yet they run our life completly, but a perfect example of numbers not working is sports, the odds are always against the underdog yet underdogs win all the time, especially in wrestling. In some matches the odds of one kid beating some badass are like a million to one but it has happened many times and will forever keep occuring, numbers cant predict how a player is feeling that day, or if his game is off, they just predict patterns, and since humans arnt perfect we dont have the patterns the numbers are looking for.

Money is the biggest factor on whether or not people perceive you as successful. Money is just a number but does it make you happy. Why is that the main way we judge how "successful" people are? Shouldn't it be based on if you reached your goals and are at peace with life.

Sure numbers don't define a person, but it's impossible to work on only qualitative data in such a massive society. It would be nice to be only known as Alison and not 421-29-6551, 988-0746, 35244, 32, and a 3.8 but that's impossible because of all the Alisons in the world. The numbers don't define the person but make it easier to keep track of them. I wish it were possible to take such a hippy dippy outlook on things of this nature but in reality it's not.
