I just wanted to comment on the "Rock the Vote" debate that we watched in class on Friday since no one else had. Since I did not follow the primary presidential debates last spring, I felt that it was very comical- especially knowing what we know now (who is running and who is the running mate). The Rock the Vote debate (if you can call it that) was pretty entertaining and comical, but I felt as if the candidates' true natures weren't revealed. I guess I just never pictured Kerry as a jokemaker or Sharpton as anything but a reverend. I felt the questions from the audience were solid, but the evasive dodging of the answer by each candidate got old really fast. And so did the fact that every single one could not stay within the time constraint! Each candidate didn't know when to stop--there always comes a point when it is better to stop talking than to continue rambling, lost in words. I felt this really hurt some candidates, especially Carol Braun. In watching this debate after the fact that we know the democratic candidate, I couldn't piece together how Kerry came out on top and Edwards second. Edwards seemed so much more amiable and dynamic than Kerry, which translates into the fact that he is more appealing, at least to young voters, right?
