A stark contrast to the peaceful monotony of this snowscene: that trilling 'r', Ruotsi he says; and he almost starts (almost) in the midst of his controlled pace. Vulnerable, though they may play comfortable with this vast landscape.
It puts him on edge (either Finland's one word or the crunch of inexorable snow under his boots, it hardly matters), makes his eyes only slide to find Finland while his gloved grip tightens around his rifle (not like the Finnish troops, the differences between them are glaring).
They say all the Swedish recruits have been stationed at Hanko so that they might swim home when their cowardice inevitably overcomes them.
He doesn't bother to pull at the cloth covering his mouth, he finds there's little to say but that Germany is an obstinate fool, some sort of defense for Finland and where they tread so dangerously in this moment. So he looks at Finland, waits, mutters "Finland" in return, in straightforward Swedish.
