Hey so weather, here's a thing: I said I wasn't going to take down my Christmas tree until it snowed, and it's been in the forties and fifties and SOMETIMES the high thirties for months now, and I'm beginning to think that you're going to make me into one of those people who has their tree up all year and everyone who comes over will be like "wow, ( Read more... )

If you want it to never move again, I'd say to use Sculpie, as it is fired in the oven and is very easy to mold, and comes in a myriad of colors, and can be had at any craft store.

But that probably wouldn't work for a mobile mouth.

No, new idea: the whale is completely immobile with its mouth wide open, and all it does for the entire stop motion movie is make incoherent yelling noises. Desk whale desk whale, what have you got to say? "FDJFHGAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHDDDDDDHGHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

Five minutes later: FFFFAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHAAAAAAA

As much as you say you don't want to do cutout mouths, Robot Chicken does it for their action-figure animations.

It has a certain rakish charm to it.

Oh, yeah, very aware of the possibilities with that - we've watched just about every stop motion thing we could get our hands on (the wallace & gromits, Chicken Run, Tom Thumb, a bunch of YouTube videos, Robot Chicken, all the "behind the scenes" features on Coraline and Nightmare Before Christmas) and I want to try a whole bunch of stuff. The pasted-on mouth doesn't seem like a terrible idea, given the circumstances, but I'd like to try giving the characters as much life as I can and still make it work. It's also very possible that building an armature for the whale and then molding clay around it would help a lot with keeping limbs in place / holding a mouth open. I just need to, like, buy armature wire and then figure out how to make joints with it and stuff. There's also plasticine to try, and a whooole bunch of other stuff.

How are you liking Skyrim? I want to pick it up sometime, but I am also trying to just steal Anthony's copy sometime.

Also cannot wait to see more of your stop-animations. I think that desk whale is adorable. ♥ :D

Oh holy cow I love Skyrim. I think I've put in about 30-ish hours so far, and I started playing it on the 28th maybe? of last month, which I know doesn't sound like a ton perhaps, but it is for me! There is so much to do and no weird morality system and it's soooo prettyyyyyy and if you start playing, you're going to have to get on AIM sometimes so we can talk about it ALL THE TIME OK???
