“Where did you go?” Reid got more comfortable on the bed and continued channel surfing. “I thought you were just letting Clooney out.”
“I had some other stuff to do. Did the movie start already?”
“In few minutes.”
“So which one is it?”
“What do you mean?”
“The original or one of those hideous sequels?”
“The one and true Friday the Thirteenth.”
“Great.” Morgan hopped on the bed carrying two bowls. One full of popcorn, the other one filled with candy.
“What else did you do?”
“Stuff. Why do you ask?”
“Because you got that guilty look on your face again.”
“I don’t have a guilty look.”
“You do.” Reid’s eyes scanned the bedroom. “Where’s my Frankenstein?”
“Well…..”
“You threw out my mask!”
“It was old and ugly and it smelled weird!”
“Halloween masks are supposed to smell weird or people would use them all the time.”
“Pretty Boy, can we make a compromise?”
“I’m listening.”
“When the movie’s over I’ll make it up to you all night long, and in the morning I’ll get you a Kitty Cat mask.”
“They’re not scary!”
“And I don’t need to get a heart attack once a year. Please?”
“Fine, but I’m keeping the candy.” Reid snatched the bowl from Morgan and started munching.

“Okay, Jackie. I’ll hold on to it. Can you give the phone to mommy for a minute? Good night.” Hotch waited a minute till Hailey picked up the phone. “Hey. I guess I don’t need to ask how the trick and treating went…. I got him some Halloween candy, but I’ll keep it here for now till he comes here for the weekend. I’m surprised, you let him stay awake this late. No, I wasn’t criticizing, just wondering. Yeah. Good night.”
Hotch hung up and gave Chad a loopy grin.
“Thanks a lot. After today I can’t say “Halloween candy” without a really wide grin.”
“Halloween is a happy holiday.” Chad shrugged. He pocketed his own phone and sat down next to Hotch on the couch. On the TV screen Friday the Thirteenth was just reaching it’s first murder. “And you had fun, admit it.”
“I haven’t had this much fun during Halloween since I was a kid. Except that this time it wasn’t about Halloween candy.” The same loopy grin appeared on his face. “See what I mean? It happened again.”
“I like it when you’re grinning. You should do that more often.” Chad took a handful of popcorn from the bowl. “By the way, Garcia called you.”
“She did?”
“While you were talking to Jack. Couldn`t get a hold of you so she called me and asked me to pass a message.”
“What message?”
“She’ll add the price of her costume to your next expense report.”
“She can’t do that!”
“Apparently she can and you better go along with it. She was still pretty mad at you. Besides, how much can one Miss Piggy costume cost?”
“She was a Barbie, not Miss Piggy.”
“Right….. Enough about both of them. You want a blanket?”
“For what?”
“It’s a horror movie tradition. We have to have a blanket and when things get scary we’ll sneak closer….”
“You love that tradition, don’t you?”
“Yep.”
