Numb3rs Main List Don was waiting at his workstation with his feet on the desk, when Megan marched
in to the bullpen. “So, how was the big date?”
“Distracting.” Megan pulled something from her coat pocket and tossed it over to
Don. “Would you like to explain this to me?”
“I’m not sure what you mean….”
“You know exactly what I mean. You had our table bugged.”
“It was just a safety measure.”
“The only reason you’re still alive is the fact that we found this five minutes after
we got there. The waiter started wondering why the flowers were turning grey.”
“It’s not what it looks like-”
“It’s exactly what it looks like. Do I need to chain you before I go home?”
“That’s what my dad used to say to Ernest.” Colby commented and walked to
his own desk. “Every time Ernest tried to run away.”
“Who’s Ernest?”
“Our old horse.”
“And what happened to it?” Megan asked.
“Dad finally took it to the butchers.”
“Tempting….”
“And after that, we ate sausages everyday for three weeks.” Colby reminisced.
“So how was your date?”
“Maybe you should ask this pervy peeper here.” Megan gestured to Don.
“I’m not pervy, I’m careful!”
Megan grabbed Colby by his arm and dragged him to the break room.
“I want to talk to you, but Don can stay in the dark as far as I’m concerned."
“Great, but could you let go of my arm? You’re hurting me.”
“Sorry. Anyway, my date was good.”
“That’s great.”
“Dinner was great. Well… after the bug incident anyway. And after that it
got even better.”
“You mean you… I never thought you were that kind of a girl.”
“I’ve been on a dry-dock for months, the new maiden voyage was fast and
furious. And that guy has scars to prove it.” Megan grinned.
“So what’s the problem?”
“I’m not even sure if it is a problem. This morning when we were getting
dressed he saw those pictures I have on my bookshelf.”
“So?”
“Remember the one that was taken in Wolfie`s? With all of us?”
“Sure. What about it?”
“He got really excited.” Megan took a long breath. “He knows Charlie. He
started talking about how long it’s been and when I was about to ask him
about it, he said he had to leave. All I got was a quick kiss and `I’ll call you`.”
“He knows Charlie?”
“Yeah. Has he ever talked about Michael?”
“I don’t think so… I can`t believe it.”
“Believe what?”
“First Martin and now that guy…. I knew he`s been around, but this is ridiculous…”
“Translation, please. Who`s Martin? Do you mean that guy who was at Charlie`s
place for dinner some time ago?”
“Yep.”
“So who’s he dating now?”
Colby hesitated and glanced to the bullpen. “I don’t think you know him…”
“Okay, I don’t care about that. But if Michael is one of Charlie`s ex`s, I want to
know about it. I don’t want my buddie`s leftovers.”
“I understand.”
“Think about it. What kind of a desperate horny individual would settle for that?”
“Settle for what?” Charlie asked and walked in. “And how was your date?”
“Date was good and now I want answers.”
“About the case?”
“About Michael. Have slept with him?”
Charlie stared at her with his mouth open. “Wooooow… Where did that
question come from?”
“Yes or no? Martin or no-Martin?”
Charlie gave Colby an outraged look. “You told her about that?”
“No, I didn’t tell about-” Colby panicked. “About that…. thing. I just told her
you knew him before he came back and-” Colby pressed his palm against
his mouth. “I`ll shut up now.”
“Good. And Megan, calm down. Michael who?”
“How many Michaels have you had?”
“Depends on how you define `sleeping with`. Just tell me the name.”
“Berns.”
“No, I haven`t.”
“You haven`t?”
“No-Martin.”
“Good.” Megan sighed. “But how does he know you?”
“I did some consulting for his company couple years ago. They suspected some
of heir brokers was didling with the customers portfolios and-” He paused. “And
I don’t think I should tell you any more than that.”
“That’s enough for me. Thanks.” Megan grinned.
“Before I start pumping out details about last night, I got one question too.”
“Shoot.”
“What’s going on with Don? When I came in he putting on his kevlars, and
when I talked to him he jumped six feet into the air.”
“Don’t worry about him, he’ll get over it.” Colby said.
“Hopefully not too soon. I think it suits him nicely.” Megan was still grinning
like a satisfied cat.
