Afterwards “Am I late?” David asked when Charlie guided him to the backyard.
“No. Don’s late and dad’s not coming.”
“Why not?”
“He’s got a date.”
“Your father has a date?”
“Don’t look at me like that, I was just as surprised as you are.” Charlie commented.
“And before you ask, I don’t know who it is.”
“I wasn’t gonna ask. I’m not that nosy.” David handed a bottle of wine to Charlie,
who passed it over to Colby, who was operating the grill. “I wasn’t sure what we
were going to grill so I brought red. Not that I have any idea about wines.”
“That’s fine, everyone here is equally ignorant in that area.” Charlie pulled some
glasses from the table and poured all of them some of the wine.
David sat down on a deck chair and leaned back. “When did this happen….”
“When did what happen?” Charlie asked and sat down on the chair next to him.
“This. The whole couples thing. You and Granger are having a barbeque as a
couple, Don and Martin are coming here as a couple. I would have come here
with Ian, if he had been in town. Even Megan has that guy…. I still can’t remember
his name…”
“Michael.”
“Yeah, that one…. Year and a half ago we were all singles, and now we’re all
totally domesticated.”
“Are you complaining?”
“No, it’s just so funny.”
“Yeah, I guess it is.”
“Okay, first ones are done!” Colby announced from the grill.
“What are we eating?” David asked.
“There’s chicken and beef.”
“Chicken, please.” David took the place Colby handed to him. “By the way,
how’s your sunburn?”
“Well taken care of.” Charlie grinned. “I spend a lot of time making sure
it got enough attention.”
“How long is that gonna last?” David questioned.
“Sunburns?”
“No, that whole-new-relationship-lets-get-naked-whenever-we-can phase?”
“Who knows, we just hit the eighteen months mark.”
“And you still…?”
“Yep.”
“That’s encouraging.”
“Sinclair?” Colby yelled when he cam back with a salad bowl.
“Yeah?”
“You got any restrictions about eating?”
“Allergies? No.”
“Or other restrictions. You not vegetarian, right?”
“Very much a meat eater.” David grinned.
“Good. There`s some meat for you in the living room.”
“In the living room?”
“Yeah, better hurry before it goes old.”
“Why didn’t you put on the grill?”
“Go take a look at it.” Colby smirked.
David got up and walked to the living room. A familiar figure was sitting on the
couch. “Ian?” David leaped over to him and pressed Edgerton against the couch
cushions for a Welcome Back kiss.
“What are you doing here? Why didn’t you call me?”
“Didn’t know I was coming back until last night. We came up with a shotgun
solution.”
“I don’t wanna know.” David started laughing.
“What’s so funny?”
“Colby. He said there was some meat for me in the living room.”
“He was right.” Ian pulled him closer and his hands wondered down his back.
“So… do you want to go home, or do you want to eat first?” David leered.
“We’re both guys. First we eat, then we’ll have sex. We’ll enjoy food and company,
then I’ll take you home and we’ll stay in bed for the rest of the weekend.”
“Sounds like a good plan.”
-------------------------------------------------------
“It is pretty funny….” Charlie mused and leaned against Colby’s back, bringing
his hands around the other man’s chest.
“What is?” Colby asked. He was flipping steaks to the other side.
“What David said. How we’re all with somebody at the same time.”
“Isn’t it nice that everyone has somebody? Well…. Almost everyone.”
“I’m not saying it isn’t nice, but… can I ask you a question?”
“Shoot.”
“Do you ever get bored?” Charlie asked.
“Bored how?”
“With me?”
“I can honestly say, that being with you is never boring.”
“You don’t miss being single?”
“Nope.”
“Good.”
Charlie was about to dose off against Colby’s shoulder when his cell phone
let out a shrieking noise. He grabbed it and scanned the message.
“It’s from Don, they’re gonna be late.”
“Did something happen?”
“They just had an active morning. And afternoon. They forgot the time.”
“That’s understandable.”
“It is.” Charlie grinned. “We Eppes`s are very virile.”
“I’ve noticed.” Colby agreed merrily.
