“Anyone mind if I take a nap on my desk?” Morgan asked when the team slouched to
the bullpen. The jet had landed half an hour ago and nobody really wanted to come
to the office to handle the paperwork. Hotch and Rossi had been called to report
upstairs about the case.

“Can I use you as a pillow?” J.J. gave him a tired grin.
“Hey, I’m a one man pillow.”
“Right, I forgot…” Suddenly J.J.  look of exhaustion made way to a surprised
expression. “I can’t believe I forgot that too!”

“What did you forget?”
“Like you don’t know.” She smirked and sprinted to the elevators. “I’ll be
right back.”
“What was that?” Prentiss asked.
“No idea.” Morgan shrugged. “Pretty Boy?”

Reid had been pulling his stuff from his bags and stuffing it to his desk drawers.
He ignored Morgan’s question.
“Anyway, when we’re done here I want few cold beers and long shower and
a good sleep. Are you coming?” He directed his question to Prentiss.

“You mean two hours from now when I can’t even see straight anymore? Sure.”
“I’ll check with my Goddess, she’s probably coming too.”
“I think I’ll skip it.” Reid commented and sat down to open his laptop.

“Come on, babe. A cold beer and a honey in my arm, that’s all I ask.” Morgan
pleaded. “You can’t spoil my night like that.”
“You can go if you want. I just want to go home and get some food and rest.”

“Okay, this was the best I could do, but it’s the thought that counts, right?” J.J.
came back carrying something behind her back. She put it on Reid’s desk and
everyone gathered around to see what it was. On a paper plate was a tiny cup-
cake with green frosting. A small candle was in the middle of the it. “Anyone
got a lighter?”

Prentiss handed her a lighter and she lit up the candle. “Come on Birthday Boy,
blow it off.”

Reid glanced at Morgan. He and Prentiss looked equally surprised. Reid leaned
down to blow the candle. J.J. applauded and pulled him into a big hug.
“Thanks. Can we get to work now? I would like to go home sometime today?” Reid
smiled at her.
“Is that you’re birthday wish?”
“I haven’t done those for a long time.”
“Okay, but next year we’ll get a decent cake.” J.J. gave him a pat on the bag
a went to her desk.

“Congratulations.” Prentiss said and followed J.J. Morgan was still standing in the
same place, with a fish-on-dry-land expression on his face. Reid moved the plate to
start typing his report.
“Babe, I forgot….” Morgan started.
“I know.” Reid didn’t take his eyes of his keyboard.
“Really, I didn’t-”
“Morgan. Can we just get our reports done so we can go home?”
“Okay.” Morgan backed behind his own desk. He kept glancing at Reid but the resi-
dent genius put all his focus on his work. He didn’t look at Morgan once.

--------------------------------------

The ride home was a silent one. Reid leaned head against the car window and
pretended to be asleep. Morgan shrugged him carefully.
“Babe, we’re here.”
“Okay.” Reid got up and marched to the front door, leaving Morgan to park the car.
When Morgan got in Reid was laying on the living room floor, still wearing his shoes
and coat. Clooney was trotting on his chest and licking his face with his tail wag-
ging. Reid didn’t seem to mind the attention. After Clooney had warmed up to
him, it had started to be as affectionate with Reid as it was with it’s actual owner.

“Why don’t you ever welcome me back like that?”
“Jump on you and lick you all over? Because it’s unhygienic and because we
come home at the same time.”
“I wouldn’t mind few germs. We spread them between us anyway.”

Reid lifted Clooney off his belly and got up. “Are you still going out?”
“Of course I’m not. I wouldn’t have suggested that you had told me.”
“So you didn’t forget, I forgot to tell you?”
“That`s not what I meant.”
“Just so you know, I don’t care about birthdays. It’s not like I’ve celebrated
them before.”
“We had a cake at the office last year!”
“That was two years ago, and it was because J.J. brought it. I can understand
that children see their birthdays as steps towards maturity, but I see no reason
why adults should celebrate the gradual deterioration of their cellular structure.”

“So your not mad at me?”

Reid let out a frustrated sigh. “The cake thing was two years ago. You remem-
ber what happened last year?”
Morgan thought about it. “I can’t remember.”
“We were on a job. In Nevada. And we shared a motel room.”
“You mean when….”
“When you made your move? Yes, that trip.”
“So that was….”
“Exactly one year ago.”

Morgan wanted to slam himself on the head with a sledgehammer.

“I think I’ll go take a shower. I still feel like I just got out of the airplane.” Reid
said and grabbed his bag. “The neighbour left a note, Clooney’s been fed
already. You could call and order a pizza, or something.”
“Babe-”
“Morgan. We just got home, I’m tired and hungry. I don’t have the energy for
this right now.”
“I didn’t mean to-”
“I know you didn’t. Would you just drop it?” Reid marched up the stairs.

Morgan considered following him, but he didn’t want to make the situation
worse than it already was. He took his phone and ordered a pizza.
