NUMB3RS Main List “Doctor Eppes?”
Charlie lifted his eyes from his papers. There was a blond man standing on the door.
“Yes?”
“I called the student office and they said you were here today.”
“Just for few hours.” Charlie tilted his head and looked at the man. “Sorry, but
I can’t remember you.”
“That’s alright, we haven’t really met. I mean I’ve seen you on some scenes, but….”
“You’re not from the FBI, are you?”
“No.” Man laughed. “I’m a paramedic.”
Pieces clicked. “Let me guess. Matthew?”
“Yeah. Matthew Thyme.” He offered his hand and Charlie shook it. “You got
a minute?”
“Sure. And you’re pretty lucky, I’m on sabbatical. I’m just here to handle
some errands.”
“You know Megan, right?”
“Yes.” Charlie asked carefully. “Why do you want to talk about it?”
“I…. She’s not answering my calls and when I go to her house she doesn’t even open
the door. I have no idea what’s going on.”
“I’m not sure if I-”
“It’s been over a month. She suddenly just stopped everything. Is she okay?”
“Well…. She had a little car accident few days ago, but she didn’t get any serious
injuries.”
“Couple days ago? What about before that?” He looked at Charlie. “You know why
she’s doing this, don’t you?”
“It’s not my place to tell you.”
“I know, but she’s not even talking g to me! Just…. Tell her I wanna talk with her.”

“Hey, bro.” Charlie greeted and walked to Don’s desk from the elevators. “You got
time for lunch?”
Don resisted the urge to slam his computer to the wall. “Yeah, I better take a break
anyway. If I try to write this now, I’ll end up writing something like “go to hell
and leave me alone”. Lunch sounds a lot better.”
“What are you writing?”
“They send some question on the report for the Trenton case. And of they require
a response in writing.”
“Of course….”
“Eppes?”
“Yeah?” Both men turned to look at the woman who was now leaned against one
of the partition walls.
“Steffy?” Don grinned. The blond smirked and hugged him.
“Yep. I was in the building, and I thought I’d stop by to see you.”
“Steffy, this is my brother Charlie. Chuck, Stephanie Thomas.”
“Nice to meet you.” She leaned closed and examined both brothers. “You said you
have a brother but I don’t think you ever mentioned a name. Does he work here too?”
“He’s a consultant.”
“And he can speak for himself, thank you.” Charlie interrupted.
“Sorry, chuck. So what are you doing here?”
“In the building or in L.A.?” Steffy asked. “I got transferred here, just two months
ago. I’m working at the D.A.`s office now.”
Charlie looked like he was trying to suppress a giggle fit.
“Anyway, are you free for lunch?” Steffy continued.
Don looked at Charlie who shrugged. “I don’t mind. You two probably have a lot
to talk about.”
“Great. I still got to handle some things,. How bout we’ll meet in the lobby
in ten minutes?”
“Okay, I’ll see you there.” Don agreed.
She went to the elevators and Charlie waited till she was out of earshot.
“Don…. I don’t know how to say this, so I’m just gonna ask….”
“What?”
“Exactly how many of your ex`s are or have been working in the D.A.`s office?”
“Chuck….”
“How many?”
“Four.”
“I’m starting to see a pattern….. Then the basics: When and how long?”
“In Quantico, she worked in white collar crimes. Any more questions?”
“No. But have to admit, I never knew you had a thing for older women…..”
“She’s not that old.”
“Older than you. Oedipal sentiments or just an experienced Ms. Robinson?”
“She’s maybe fourteen or fifteen years older, so stop that.”
“Okay, okay. Are gonna come to the house after work? We need to talk about
something.”
“Is it urgent? Martin’s taking me to some charity thing his company’s hosting.”
“Poor you….” Charlie giggled. “Did he make you rent a tux?”
“Worse…. He bought me one.”
“Well, I’ve had to go those ever since I started teaching, so just suck it up. It’s
not that bad. And at least you don’t have to go alone.”
“Don’t you take Granger with you to those things?”
“Sometimes, but he’s not really popular among the CalSci staff. Last year he
thought professor Twain was hitting on me and pulled out his gun.”
“Really?”
“Yep. And you’re gonna be late for lunch.”
“Yeah, I gotta go. See you later.” Don grabbed his cell phone and wallet from the
desk drawer and shut his computer.
“Have fun.” Charlie commented. “And don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.”
