Cynical (but true) thought for the day

Seriously-- the United States is just about the worst country imaginable, absolutely the most abhorrent society with the crappiest government we could possibly come up with, and the worst social problems to exist anywhere-yeah, the worst country there is....

EXCEPT for almost all the other countries on Earth!!!

But Julian Assange says we're authoritarian and corporatist so he must be right! Because umm...Glenn Greenwald says so...because um...Bradley Manning is a hero...because um...Afghanistan BAD! Bush LIED!

Seriously though, let's not condemn an entire nation's efforts just because we might disagree with some of them.

Remember Winston Churchill's comment about democracy (excerpted, but with meaning intact, from one of his speeches below)?

"Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

I think we have a lot of problems, and many many things wrong with us in the USA-- but I'm not condemning the USA (at least not entirely). :)

Lol you had me there for a min.

One of my ex boyfriends was from the Philippines. On a green card that may have been fake. He complained so much about the US I wanted to steal it and get him deported back to the Philippines so that he could see what bad was REALLY like lol, but I never did.

At this point I do not know of any other country that would be better...do you?

There are a few that might be better to live in... *IF* you were a citizen and not some immigrant stuck looking at what citizens get but that you don't, but very few.

My point (if there is one), is that we have an awful lot of problems in this country, that we (as a people) ought to work on changing-- but that for all our problems (and my sometimes aggravated statement that we're pretty f***ed up here in the USA), it's still one of the better countries on Earth to be in. The cynical form I sometimes apply is to say that we suck, but everyone else sucks more-- in my more positive moments, I'd like to think we can change the things that are wrong without throwing out the stuff that's working well.

And-- that humanity (and life on Earth) isn't perfect anyway.

Had to do a double take on this one, because I saw the identity of the poster before reading the first sentence.

I agree wholeheartedly.
