Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback?
probably trade paperback, but no real preference.
Barnes & Noble or Borders?
i have, in fact, worked at both. generally whichever is closer works for me. here, that means b&n.
Bookmarks or dog-ear?
bookmarks. but that's generally whatever is handy. receipts make good bookmarks.
Amazon or brick-and-mortar?
brick-and-mortar. i use amazon at christmas, though - left to my own devices, i tend not to get presents actually *sent*, but having amazon do it for me works just fine.
Alphabetize by author, by title or randomize?
in an ideal world, i would probably have the dewey fucking decimal system set up in my house. however, i live with someone who is allergic to organizing media. or much of anything, for that matter. (it's a long story, and yes, there are legitimate reasons.) in an attempt to accommodate this quirk, i leave off most of the organization of books and movies. i do set aside a bookshelf for anything i'm currently working with - fun reading right now, schoolbooks when class is in - so that those things have a home besides my car or the coffee table. i'm working on making more homes for more things.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations or browse?
a mix.
Tidy ending or cliff hanger?
As long as its done well, either works. <---yeah. i actually like unresolved endings slightly better, but again, only if they're done well.
Morning, afternoon or nighttime reading?
