This is a wild and beautiful place about 70 miles from Fairbanks. One of my favorite day trips. About 3 years ago this whole area (250,000+ acres) was burned, part of 6.5 million acres that burned that year here in the Interior of Alaska. No, you didn't read much about it in the papers because virtually nobody lives there so nothing but the earth

My first experience with fireweed was just across the Alaskan border, at a rest stop on the Alcan. It is beautiful!
