walking cage crinoline

Sooo... the garden hose hoop skirt idea kinda fell through. I left it on the dress form and the hose started collapsing in upon itself. It might have been because I didn't put all of the hoops in channels or it could have been something else, but I used that as the motivation I needed to give in and pay up for the supplies to make a proper one. Doesn't everyone need an 1860s ballgown?

Love the cage, BTW. How much did all the materials cost? Is the boning the same used in making corsets (just cut to a different length)?

Not helping. :P

And I could have saved a bit in the long run if I'd have bought my supplies in bulk, but it was a bigger up front investment that I wasn't ready to make. As is I bought the supplies from Truly Victorian and spent the following

$24.00 12 yds Bone Casing
$48.00 Hoop Wire
$8.75 Shipping
$80.75 Total

I already had the fabric, grommets and lacing and had to buy three packs of twill tape for about $6. So total cost of supplies would have been around $100, plus the cost of the pattern. The boning is hoop steel, which is not quite like the boning used in a corset, although I suppose it could be used as such. The boning for corsets is going to be a lot flatter.
