If you could have cast Benedict Cumberbatch as any character in the Harry Potter series (regardless of whether they ever appeared in the films) who would it be and why?
Hmm... Tom Riddle before he went all Voldemort on us? Grindelwald? Hmm... I'd say Barty Crouch Jr but I don't know that anyone could have done better than David Tennant with that one. Perhaps play up the ginger and be Bill? All legs and freckles and smooth enough with the ladies to land a bird like Fleur?
Well, if they did the filming between 3 and 12 years ago that buys us a bit. Plus he seems to adjust age really well. What do you think he could have done with Quirrell?
He'd be a pretty kickass Snape, if maybe a bit too nice. :)
If I liked the character of Sirius Black, I'd almost think that's be a good fit. But maybe that's just because I like the idea of Cumberbatch, doggie-style. XP
He could do a young Dumbledore. He's got that presence and that hyper-focused intelligence. I think he'd do a good job of walking that thin line that Albus pushed in his youth.
Now I want an "X-men First Class" for Harry Potter that tells that story.

But I agree that David Tennant was ideal as Barty.
I think he's too old to be a Weasley son. Bill and Charlie were only in their 20s even by book 7.

Hm, I'm vacillating between Barty Crouch and the young Albus Dumbledor. Yeah, I don't know why either....
