It permits people to send me e-mail that's encrypted only to me. Even the sender can't decipher it. It also confirms that what I send actually comes from me, and not someone else claiming to be me.

The reason I posted it is because A) the more widely disseminated this key becomes, the better, and B) I'm hoping everyone starts encrypting their e-mails and other electronic communications. While this won't *prevent* eavesdropping or wiretapping (legal or not), it prevents *understanding* by eavesdroppers.
An avenue -- even for legal means -- for wiretapping or eavesdropping can be misused or abused by ne'er-do-wells.
I put all my snail-mail in envelopes, too, so ne'er-do-wells don't read my private correspondence and nobody thinks it's silly; why should I not promote something similar in an electronic format?
