I got swamped the other day with LJ posts and e-mails regarding wearing purple on October 20th.

Invariably, they started with the obnoxious phrase: "It has been decided." and then went on from there.

My problem(s) with it are 1) listed above -- who made this up? and 2)Unlike, say, wearing a pink ribbon -- wearing purple to support gay youth only works if everyone understands it and nobody wears purple without knowing about the cause. Pink ribbons done in the 'breast cancer awareness' fashion are very different than pink ribbons worn in the hair or otherwise.

Purple? Heck, I know people who wear purple socks just because they're out of white tube socks -- it doesn't mean they support gay teens.
