It`s been so long since I updated that I`m not even going to try to fill in the gaps, because if I do I won`t ever actually write anything. I figure most people who`d care to hear my life story as of the last three months have already heard it anyway -- if not, you should complain to me directly and I`ll do what I can

Hope you`re having fun too! (In a suitably piratical manner.) And I hope I get to see you somewhen this year -- good luck with classes etc.!

Sometimes, you make me call to mind Stephenson's brief rant about badasses, and how once the position of Ultimate Badass has been taken, life relaxes a little for those who no longer need to compete...as long as someone's being as nerdy as you; I'm okay with being only a light-weight dork.

Also, you need to answer your phone! :)

AHHHHHHHHH! So that *was* you. Sorry; I'm usually around more- the phone's been traveling with other people when I get crazybusy. Email me when it is a day that you are likely to call? I'd love to talk with you...darnitdarnit should have had the phone in my pocket....

i find with japanese that i'm more excited (in my intermediate i-a way) with the ways of speaking without speaking - that is, delicately blowing people off. japanese is just as good as english, but i know how to do it in english (mostly) - now i learn how to be politely content-free in a new language!

I`d argue that Japanese is actually better than English at conveying meaning without actual content (or native Japanese speakers are better at it, anyway). Which is definitely a lot of fun, and which is why (in reference to a previous post of yours) even if you`ve learned the fundamental grammar, the language is still interesting! Vocab can have interesting patterns too! Especially in a language with a complex honorific system that`s in the process of collapsing from an even richer one. (Possibly this is just my bent for historical linguistics coming out.)
And I just noticed that one of the articles on the bulletin board is about you -- おめでとう。:)

japanese may very well be better, as you say. again, i know not.
and what can i say, i already repented of my "ok, done!" feeling, but that doesn't change the fact that i think of vocab as a by-the-way thing.
and there is an article? i should go see what it is... i was unaware.
