So I stepped out of my apartment this morning into a more surreal cityscape than usual. The sky was bleached grey and the sun was a cold, pale disk through heavy clouds -- pretty normal for Beijing. But setting out towards campus I had the odd sensation that I was walking through a sepia photograph. In my usual morning daze, it took me a minute

holy gosh! my sis is in the Dust BOWLLLLL. stockett would be so excited... hope you're doing ok though. miss you :( but see you soon!

I am! In the dust bowl, I mean. And when I walked home from class yesterday I found that people in my apartment complex had written snarky messages about the weather in the dust on all the parked cars, using various languages. It reaffirmed my faith in human nature.
And yes, see you increasingly soon! :) Hope you feel better...
