Un Ciel Couleur Vanille

What more is there to give? Yeah, I'm a bit of a whiner this week, perhaps I'm emotional, moody, or God forbid premenstrual.

Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wolf received a standing ovation tonight. Why do people do it so often? Is it the thrill of seeing live theatre in Fort McMurray -- Or perhaps politeness? I did like it, some parts at least... but ( Read more... )

If you have a problem with me, say it to my face, or at least call me. You know my number.

I'm not going to say anything snippy or witty or bitchy.. whatever.. I'm tired and in some kind of shock.

What possessed me to write this? The fact that Keyano always gets standing ovations. It's kind of sad, because when a play is actually good and and worthy of one, it doesn't seem all that meaningful when looked at relatively. I'm really happy Tim started that ovation.

Where did I say it wasn't deserving?

Yes, Aimee. You are the absolute judge of character, judge of plays, judge of reaction, judge of everything. You know if people are lying or not, if their emotions are true. For you are the fates, measuring and snipping the destinies of man!
Don't do this... why do you do this? gah ( ... )

WOW! That was pretty damn condescending too! In fact, that was just plain out mean!

She was stating her opinion on a topic and you were sarcastic and demeaning. Just cause you're stating your opinion doesn't mean you have to drag the other opinion through the mud. That's not even an attack on the opinion thats a blantant attack at Aimee!

If you post that on a friends LJ, I'd hate to see what you say to people you don't like.

Wow.. I'm in shock.

I understand where you are coming from with how everybody always stands at the end of the shows at Keyano whether they actually really liked it or not. I've only been here two years and I've seen and been told that everbody ALWAYS stands. However, as a performer on that stage it really makes you wonder. Hearing that Tim started it makes it sincere in that I think I have enough of an impression about him to know it was honest. But it makes you think...

In Fort McMurray, we're only exposed to four Mainstage shows every season, which have been painstakingly selected to appeal to the widest audience possible. To bring in lots of ticket revenues, the theatre needs to put on plays that are popular and recognizable. It isn't very often that we get to meet a set of characters that we haven't seen a million times before. Unless you go to a large city where numerous smaller theatres produce a larger variety of plays, with casts drawn from a more diverse pool of actors, I suppose you can't be a sophisticated judge of "good theatre".

Thankfully Keyano trying out a relatively unheard-of play next season - Only Drunks and Children Tell the Truth, which is funny/touching and written by a Canadian playwright.
