A certain contingent found him sexy pre-films (ca. 1998-2001), although I can't say I was one of them, since I only just read the first book by the time the first film came out. Therefore my opinions are necessarily potentially contaminated and can't be considered conclusive. (That said, I'm on a canon-discussion list called Loose Canon and help mod a group on deviantART called Spinners--End, both places where we try to avoid this "film contamination".)
