Is the fact that Harry is related to Tom Riddle relevant? If the Gaunts are descendants of one Peverell brother, and Ignotus Peverell is the brother who passed the Invisibility Cloak down to the Potters, then that makes Harry and Tom very distant cousins, and possible descendants of Salazar Slytherin... Hmm.
