There has to be a seperation of church and state. This is aboslutely ludacris that senators and the legislative branches would spend time working on a bill about a "year of the bible" when obviously there are much more important things happening like a recession, a WAR, and well let's be honest ( Read more... )

Is interesting because political oaths of office are still taken on the bible & people are sworn in in courts of law, on the bible. It's a weird state of things which atheists over simplify, I think. Naturally they say the forefathers were all pot smoking deists & that they meant some abstract new age entity when they said "one nation under God." 'Everybody smart fomr any time i history agrees with me.' That's a bad argument from either side of the fence.

The state does legislate right of certain religious freedoms; not just for Christians. Religious beliefs do come into some people's political & moral ideals. Most politicians, former presidents, etc, etc, have some affiliation with some form of Christian church. Is more common among them the freemasonry.

I think it might be a Christian country, in some ways. I know what you mean though as far as the time waste situation. I agree with that. Is a stupid bill & it only gets people pissy & starts them talking in closed minded absolute terms in both directions.

I realize that it's the more popular thing to be a christian and if you say you are you pretty much get votes. no matter what other things you're in favor of, or the other bullshit that they do in office, as long as you say you love God and he talks to you then you're alright.

I just think there should be laws in place to respect the freedom but it should be limited involvement with the state and church.
