Request tutorial number#2, for
pink_writer!
[The result will differ from the original slightly, I hope you don't mind ^^; ]
We'll be going from
to
, in PSPX~
1. Our base stars Umi from Magic Knight Rayearth. It's pretty, but also a bit plain, wouldn't you say~? Let's fix it.
2. Duplicate the base, and set it to Screen, 50%. It's a bit clearer now, see?
3. Make a new layer, fill it with #031c37 [
], and set it to Exclusion, 100%.
4. Paste this
texture [I forgot who did it.
colorfilter, perhaps?] and set it to Screen, 100%.
5. Now duplicate your base and drag it to top. Go to Adjust -> Hue and Saturation -> Hue/Saturation/Lightness, and set Saturation to -100 and Lightness to 0.
Set this layer to Overlay, 60%.
6.
On new layers, paste these gradients with the following settings:
, Overlay, 100%;
, Color (Legacy), 30%;
, Overlay, 100%.
After this, your icon should look like that:
7. Now, well, I'll use Curves. Sorry.
Go to Layers -> New Adjustement Layer -> Curves, and play with it until your icon looks nice.
[My settings:
RGB: Input 114, Output 88
Red: Input 157, Output 157
Green: Input 145, Output 166]
This is what I ended up with:
8. Make a new layer and fill it with #c9caba [
], and set it to Burn, 100%.
9. Use this texture
on a new layer and set it to Burn, 100%.
10. Duplicate your desaturated base, drag it to to and set it to Soft Light, 100%.
11. Use this texture
as a new layer and set it to Soft Light, 100%.
12. Now, this needs some text, doesn't it~?
Firstly, let's prepare some space for the text. Make white [#ffffff] your background color, and use the Rectangle Tool to draw a rectangle wherever you want the text to be placed [I put it in the bottom-left corner]. Now, blur the rectangle using Gaussian Blur [Adjust -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur], setting it to two or three.
13. Let's add actual text now.
Using Allegro and 18th Century, I typed some lyrics from the song 'Evergreen' by Faithless, but you can write anything that matches the icon.
So, uh, well, this icon with text looks like that:
Fonts/settings:
Capital C: Allegro, size 18
'HOIRS OF WINTER': 18th Century, size 8, Kerning 200
'HOLD THE': 18th Century, size 6, Kerning 1000.
Color I used was #590034, a very dark, pinkish red.
I also lowered the opacity of the text layer to 75%.
14. All this icon needs now is a border.
Make a new layer, and using a paint brush or Selection Borders [Select All, then Selections -> Modify -> Selection Borders], make a three-pixel border in #ffffff [white].
Now, on a new layer, make a one-pixel border in #965e7f [semi-dark, muted pink] and lower the opacity of this layer to 80%.
And ta-dah, icon is finished~!
