Why, oh why did I choose to set 'Star' in the USA?

If anyone can help me out with anything to do with Thanksgiving, I would be so grateful. It'll come in handy not only for this book, but for later instalments in my series.

thanksgiving is a holiday in thwe USA celebrated on the last thursday of novemeber [i believe]
it started out when the pilgrims came here and were so fucked over for the winter because they didn't know how to preserve food or harvest or anything like that. in one winter, a ton of them died out.
then, those oh so friendly native americans [the indians] came to help the pilgrims by showing them some tricks of the trade and whatnot [in like 1696 or some year way back then]. they had such a good harvest that year, that they pilgrims and indians had a big three day celebgration like "WOO! we have a ton of food now! and we're friends!"
so every year since then people have gathered to give thanks and have a ton of food, usually turkey and stuffing and stuff.
