and why does Michael Bay get to keep making movies?

So last night we watched Pirates 3 and drank rum 'til it made sense.

Didn't actually work.

Why do the makers of (recent) trilogies keep screwing up the third one? Pirates 3, X-men 3, Spiderman 3...these movies are overstuffed with interesting material and executed so poorly.

Also, why is the rum gone?

You can add Shrek 3, Austin Powers and quite a few others to that list. I think the reason is that the third sequel is usually money-motivated rather than an organic continuation of the story. I think the third Harry Potter movie was the best one of that series at the time it came out (I haven't seen the more recent films). Return of the Jedi, though not as good as Empire Strikes Back, is still a necessary component to the story and its existence is justified.

If you can summarize a film with the phrase "Peter Parker Emo Bangs", you know your sequel is unnecessary.

But Spiderman 3 was so fun! Really, that's the most fun I've had in a movie theater since...well, since 300. Maybe I just have shit taste.

Admission? I *loved* Pirates 3. Thought it did things I wasn't expecting. (Though Calypso was overdone)
Also, kinda enjoyed the badness that Spidey 3, cause...so much *GAY*.
