Frankly, I didn't know Hiro was THAT much of a goober; the Wikipedia entry on him doesn't do him justice. o_o He's probably the only one who's actually enthusiastic about his newfound powers, though, which makes him less angst-ridden than the rest.
I also found it a little silly that they'd subtitle his and his friend's Japanese dialogue, but have Mohinder speaking English in India. Meh.
I don't know, I know a lot about the show from reading stuff online, but I never found myself drawn to watch it either. It's closer to the sort of stories I'd read/play in than traditional comic books, but frankly, it would take something REALLY geeky (like, say, D&D) to bring me back to watch anything produced for television. Superheroes aren't under-represented on TV (Teen Titans, Justice League, umpteen versions of Batman, Danny Phantom, Kim Possible, etc. etc.), it's just that this is the first prime-time non-animated supers show since... well... Adam West's campy version of Batman.

You seem to like it more than I do, though. You kept looking at me with a look of "that was a cool part, did you see it? did you see it?". Then again, I got those looks when I managed to plug my ears through an entire episode of Monty Python... *sigh*
