I used to be a professional, actually it was my first 'real' job, and after hauling around industrial vacuums I learned really quick that sweeping the 'typical' way really does hurt your back - even with the lightweight vacuum I have now.

Here's the secret, stay upright, relatively stiff arms(by your side), and use your feet to move the vacuum. Instead of pushing back and forth with your arms like we all seem to do, walk forward two steps and back two steps - using your legs. It's also better to sweep in long strips, more like mowing a lawn. Of course, that depends on the obstacles you have in your rooms, but in halls - all the way down, all the way back.

^_^ hope this helps. Vacuuming is so much funner when it's not a pain in the back.

Ohh, and yes, just a page a day. Hmmmmm. I will keep that in mind too.

Now that you describe the back saving way to vacuum clean, I remember having seen it done.

I can imagine it's very useful when you vacuum with a heavy cleaner every day! It makes a lot of sense, and I will try to follow your advice next time I vacuum. :) Thanks a lot for the kind tip!

Everyone has a book to tell, I'd love to read yours.

Haha, I feel your pain about dusting and vacuum cleaning! It's the same with me.

What I hate the most about household dust is sitting down in the evening, and seeing the dust float around in the beam of light cast by, say, the lamp on my bedside table for an example. It always makes me wonder how "clean" the air I fill my lungs with all day long must be! Gah. x_x

It does make you wonder yeah! I try not to think about it too closely. I've heard somewhere that a lot of dust is human skin, so I guess breathing in particles from one's own skin isn't a problem. I guess the feces from the mites living in the dust might a bigger problem.

:) Good to hear someone else understands my hatred for vacuuming and dusting. Vacuuming is so not fun!

Not one of my favourite past times either. Part of me wants one of those robot hoovers that I've seen knocking about. Not much good on stairs though I don't think.

I have it!

Self hoovering stairs!

A little vacuum device pops out on demand or scheduled on each step that sweeps across gathering up any dust to be collected in some receptacle somewhere.

Dusting is also pants. Has it no consideration for others?

Hope you are well FireC, its been a long time. x

That's a long time no see! ^__^

But very nice to see you again! Hope all is well with you. Are you studying archaelogy or did you do something else instead?

Self hoovering stairs and floors would have been great.

I've seen one of those real hoover robots, one major company has developed one. It works well, but it's extremely expensive, GBP 800+.

"Pants"! :) That's a cool expression! I'm going to use it!

I've been reading Brit film magazine Total Film and have been learning some interesting British vernacular. ^__^ It makes me want to learn more.
