I just finished reading 1984. Possibly the scariest and most depressing book i have ever read. It took ( i kid you not) 2 weeks to get through the first 50 pages, then 3 days to get through the other 270ish pages. It started to slow again towards the end but i persevered and its done. thank god

I've always heard it pronounced "neechie" (probably the same way you have it first spelled out for pronunciation above). This was the way it was always said for my philosophy dept. (my second B.Sc. is in philosophy), but that doesn't mean that they definitely pronounced it correctly :P
