Maybe it had been Mei's intention all along, from the moment she stopped to stare at the dress in the shop window and ran in without a word to try it on, to when she dejectedly dropped the pricetag after checking and doublechecking its surface. Maybe it hadn't.
Either way, she had successfully managed to convince Zhi to get it for her, though it wasn't like he needed much convincing anyway. Mei wanted it, it was her birthday the next day, and she looked 真的美丽 in it, and that was all there was. The end of their shopping outing after Zhi had walked her back home saw him turning straight back to that shop and buying it without a second thought. The lady working at the counter recognised him and had given him a smile.
"Present for your girlfriend?"
"Ah, no... just a friend."
That was what they were to each other, right?

Now, on the aforementioned next day, he's at her front door with the gift-wrapped present, finger hesitating above the doorbell because 天啊 Mei's grandmother was scary. There isn't really any way around it, though, save for calling Mei's handphone, but he figures it isn't worth the trouble and pushes the button.
。。。奇怪，there's no response. After waiting a little while longer, Zhi decides leaving it at the door works too. So he does just that, and turns to leave.
