This commander needs to be relieved.

To say I am disgusted beyond belief by this tale doesn't begin to cover it.  It was bad enough, (mumble) years ago in Basic Training, that you had a choice on Sundays of going to church or extra barracks detail.  To have a commander actively tell his troops to witness for Jesus is against every regulation on ( Read more... )

So, he tells them to witness for Jesus, in a country that is predominantly Muslim, and, until we toppled the Taliban, considered it a capital offense to proselytize. Whether it is still in their laws, who knows?
He needs to be more that relieved, IMO. That could be construed as actively putting his troops in harms way unnecessarily. ('course, this is the Army....)

My understanding is that it's still against the law, just not a capital offense anymore.

They are reporting on CommonDreams.org that the military is not letting them do it, that it was all blown out of proportion, etc.

I think that sharing them would be useful in the exchange of ideas, so each side can understand why the other does what they do, but...

And the Chaplin needs to be relieved, possibly brought up on charges. I know of a Navy Chaplin who was forced out for less (bitching at an admiral that the "one strike" trend was unchristian), so how is it a guy who says that it's your "business" to "get 'em in the Kingdom" needs to find a different employer.

You're perfectly free to express your ideas and practice your religion, but if that violates your job? New job. :)

...and speaking of exchanging ideas, we ever gonna get a chance to talk?
