A few things have been bugging me, and I thought this would be a good place to ask my questions ( Read more... )

1) As we know, Hatari has been cut off, and I want to say that Nailah mentioned something to the effect that there were other lands beyond Tellius, that the flood waters had started to recede. I figure at the very least Ike went to Hatari, and then decided to see if he could find anything beyond that ( ... )

1. Continents don't sink so much as they're buried under water. Furthermore, there are no remarks about islands. It's also suggested that there's more to the world than Tellians are aware of, as evidenced by Hatari. There's also some difficulty in Ike fading away into anonymity, because unlike Greil -- who was a localized Big Shot -- Ike is sort of All Of Tellius's Big Shot. His face is probably on a thousand tapestries ( ... )

Sorry, misread What would keep Soren from simply leaving Daein.

My response to that is much the same, though. Ike staying in Daein would keep Soren in Daein, since you've decided that he's skulking around Tellius. As for the rest, though, I'm not sure he has enough power over the throne to decide to abdicate it in the first place.

Pretty much going to agree with this. Either way, I'd imagine Ike would have his reasons for leaving to begin with. We (the fans) don't have to like that he leaves, but because Ike views the Greil Mercenaries as family, I can't imagine his decision was one lightly made. Quite the contrary, rather; I'm sure he did a lot of thinking about it before he did pull his disappearing act.

In fact, I'm not sure he would care to share the details of his tumultuous childhood

This times over nine-thousand. He's known Ike how long before he tells Ike anything, really? I highly doubt he'd tell Almedha anything.

Ike's leaving is a thorny topic in and of itself and only recently have I been able to come up with a guess as to why he did it that doesn't suggest that he's secretly a selfish bastard. But, in any case, canon really does say that he disappears and with his fame it would be hard for the truth to be otherwise.

At the point he tells Ike, he's known of him for ~10 years and spent time around him for a canonically ambiguous period (any time between 10 years and 1 is possible but I'd hedge my bets closer to the middle of that period). However long he's known Ike though, it's noteworthy that Ike is the only person he tells any of it to. He doesn't even hint toward it in his little misanthropic rants, nor does he enlighten Stefan on any personal details beyond those that Stefan already brought up and pried from him.

And I'd describe him as Pretty Annoyed when Micaiah pulled a Heron Mindreading on him. He's a guy who likes to keep his distance.

I'm surprised how unusual this pairing is given their similarities.

Hmm, well, to be honest, I'm not surprised at all. Ike/Soren is a fandom favorite, but I won't use that as an excuse. Rather, I feel it should be said that similarities do not necessarily bring two people together. On the surface, they may appear to have some similarities, but two black people, or two persons of any race-- or even a set of twins-- do not necessarily have much in common when you look further than the outside.

Soren and Micaiah would be an interesting pair to write about, but I honestly don't feel I could ever come up with a way it would work convincingly, and that seems to be the problem you're having, too, am I right?

how to get Soren involved in the first place?I don't think even Ike could convince Soren that the thing would be worth his while. Why? Because it's really not. At least, not in my opinion. I'd think Soren accepting something like marriage to Micaiah would be OOC in and of itself. Nothing ties him to Daein, even his parentage. Why ( ... )

Yes, that's the map I was thinking of. I find it amusing that there's a city in Goldoa called "Myron" for some reason ( ... )

I agree with pretty much everything the above posters have said -- except for the part about Micaiah being a Sue, but I'm well aware that I'm usually alone in my own little Micaiah fanclub anyway.

I think the best way to do a Micaiah/Soren fic might be something slightly AU. Still in Tellius, mind you, but perhaps change some facts. Change the ending, change the past, whatever. As it stands, Soren is going to be at Ike's side, and probably couldn't give half a shit about Daein. Bloodline does hold some weight in this world, however, so perhaps he might even be manipulated or forced into such a position? Micaiah may actually agree with Soren that he doesn't need to be there, thus forming at least a camaraderie that one could work with.

I'm usually Ike/Soren and Micaiah/Sothe through-and-through, but I think I'd really enjoy Micaiah/Soren. It's an unusual thought. Good luck~

Yeah, if you went the way of Prince of Daein AU, there would be a reason for Soren himself to elect to marry Micaiah (rather than the other way around) to hang onto the coattails of Micaiah's popular support. Whether Micaiah would want such a political marriage is questionable, but "the good of Daein" could more easily be a factor.

Incidentally, I like Micaiah quite a bit. She's the first Fire Emblem lord to do something with true moral ambiguity. (Of course, she doesn't have to suffer the consequences so much, but... small steps.)

Maybe OP means that Soren and Micaiah are similar in that they're both mary-sues.

*trollface*
