I am loving BSG!! The most interesting character has been Sol Tigh. The Cylon story arc is a bit dry. That 'genocide' story was stolen straight from Star Trek (Borg).

I agree with your assessment of post-occupation storyline... apparently so do a lot of viewers since viewership has fallen off considerably. However, it is the political drama that drew me into the show.
Make sure the surfboard blocks any chi from slipping out the door otherwise your band will breakup!
