Large, large, large chunks of the fandom totally either rewrote that so it happened differently or ignore it completely. My initial reaction when I finished watching it was to jump online and find someone to tell me how that did NOT just happen. (As I was weeks behind the broadcast, there was plenty of fic out there to meet this need, thank goodness, as I sure wasn't up to writing it yet.)

The biggest DW & related fandoms archive that I know of is Teaspoon and an Open Mind.

On LJ, there's tw_classic and tw_classic_bb which stick with pre-CoE (and often pre-Exit Wounds) Torchwood. longliveianto focuses on fics wherein Ianto is either immortal or somehow longer-lived (vampire, dragon, TARDIS) and so are necessarily CoE non-compliant one way or another. There's also torchwood_fest, torchwood_fic, torchwoodcoffee, and torchwoodslash, not to mention the newsletter/fic-and-news-complation torchwood_three for Torchwood, which is probably what I should've led with. There's also twstoryfinder for locating specific stories and twgenrefinder for locating specific *types* of stories.

DW LJ comms I've not been as involved in, oddly enough. There's the Doctor/Jack comm wintercompanions... )

~butts in and hopes nobody minds~

calufrax is a rec comm for fic on Teaspoon where you can search the tags by character or pairing.

Most other lj comms are pairing specific, so it depends on what you're looking for.
