I have a hard time thinking she could be River, since River was supposedly only able to go through that one regeneration. I am not about to even start thinking about who she might be. Considering that every modern companion the Doctor has taken has been somehow special in the end, it's almost pointless to guess now.
I do as well, though there are always ways to hand-wave things. It is almost pointless to guess, though I do find it fun. It's the getting attached to a particular guess that I find mystifying.
The Jack's daughter thing isn't a great theory, since we've already seen that his grandson clearly didn't inherit his immortality, though she'd have to have been conceived not long after he got to Victorian Britain. The year is interesting timing though, the same as when he died on Earth and came back for the first time, after being shot on Ellis Island.
River/Doctor timelines are definitely migraine-inducing. I do like the idea that River has some knowledge of her though. *nods*
I, too, suspend disbelief fairly easily. I think you sort of have to, to be a DW fan in the first place.
Have you seen the delicious theory that she's Jenny's daughter. That is, Jenny of the Doctor's Daughter. If you look at screenshots, the chair that Oswin sits in while a Dalek is the same chair that Jenny sat in at the very end of the Docter's Daughter in the ship.
I wouldn't want her to be Jack's daughter for obvious reasons. I've already (presumably) been deprived of Jack/Amy flirting. Still hoping for some heavy duty Jack/Oswin subtext and Jealous!Doctor as a result.
