Classic Who Question

May 20, 2013 10:03

So, over the course of the past couple of years, I've been attempting to watch Classic Who through from the start, minus the obviously unwatchable eps that were lost to fire or otherwise destroyed. My progress has been somewhat underwhelming, as I've only just finished the Fourth Doctor's Key to Time story-series. November's approaching fast, with ( Read more... )

You should ask smallship1 who is a classic Who fan from way back. Also kribu.

I can remember things from stories that had a great impact on my young imagination, but not specific story lines or titles, sadly.

I don't know smallship1 but that's an excellent reminder to get back in touch with kribu. Thanks!

I'll be eagerly reading the responses you get. I'm so upset with Steven Moffat right now, I could cry.

That seems to be one of the two poles of reactions to the finale. *nods*

It might be nice to look at the previous anniversary episodes - the Three doctors, and the Five Doctors.

Also, the Invasion of Time, just because it's cracking.

I've seen The Three Doctors and loved it. "So these are my replacements? The dandy and the clown?" :-D Definitely shall plan on The Five Doctors. I had to check when Invasion of Time falls, because it sounded familiar, and it was. Yes, I absolutely loved that one! Didn't seem quite fair that Sarah Jane didn't get to see Gallifrey, but it was very cool that Leela did.

I second the rec for the earlier anniversary eps "The Three Doctors" and "The Five Doctors".

"City of Death" is considered a classic of the later seasons of Four and it's actually a decent episode.

A lot of people agree that most of Five's episodes are not very good apart from "The Caves of Androzani". I'm rather fond of Five, though, so some of my personal favourites include the Black Guardian Trilogy (Mawdryn Undead, Terminus and Enlightenment) and Warriors of the Deep. That last one is actually a bit embarrassing as it's sort of crappy on many levels but it has Silurians and Turlough...

I never really warmed up to Six, but Attack of the Cybermen and Mark of the Rani are rather good.

For the seventh Doctor I'd recommend Dragon Fire because it introduces Ace as companion (and she's brilliant), Remembrance of the Daleks, Battlefield (especially if you like the Brig and UNIT) and The Curse of Fenric.
