So, technology is definitely a double-edged sword. I can’t count the number of times my stress has hit the roof because of a program or computer glitch that came at the most inopportune of times - and don’t even get me started on my printer. They always seem to fail right when you really need them to work perfectly

What did people use before spreadsheets?

One thing that always struck me was the (probably apocryphal) stories about how salespeople demoing VisiCalc, the first spreadsheet, to accountants would get blubbering responses about how that software did practically their entire job, automatically, in a tiny fraction of the time.

I remember, back when I was really young, my mom took an accounting class, and she had this HUGE book that she used to practice doing data calculations in. That was back when her school wanted her to learn the "traditional" method, "just in case." :D
