i may have written this before, or at least, something in the same spirit, but i see no reason not to reiterate it at this junction:

you cannot trust people.  there is no such thing as loyalty or fidelity.  never expect someone to take blame when they can shift it onto someone else, and never expect someone to remain true to themselves.
