Awww, poor kitty. At least it's a flexible one. I remember my old dog had a stiff plastic one years ago that she tried to shear our toes off with.

A non-flexible collar sounds horrible. But even the flexible one makes our kitty really angry. He refuses to eat, he refuses to move. Tonight I will take this ridiculous sock off (not the collar though). We shall see. I recently read somewhere that a pet's psyche is more important for healing than the actual injury. Well, he's not a happy camper right now. It's worth a try. Do I sound new age? :)
