My stepfather died this afternoon. Alone, in an ambulance. (Well, with a paramedic, but alone without family.) My mother was on her way back to Belleville but was too late. Wow, Chuck really hung in there. I know it's never easy to let someone go, but I hope there is some small relief that he is no longer suffering.

That is very sad about Amy, too. I couldn't bring myself to post anything about it at the time, but the same thing happened to us last year. We were on the verge of telling our families about my pregnancy when Brian's father succumbed to cancer. He hadn't been doing well, but didn't seemed to be actively declining either. It would have been his first grandchild, too. I suppose it gave Brian's mom something positive to look forward to and think about, but it was no doubt very bittersweet.

My condolences to your family. My thoughts are with all of you.
