1. I love culinary school, but I don't know that I want to have a culinary career. I always say that if I am going to do baking and pastry, I want to do it on my terms - meaning my own business. However, it is not feasible to think that I can graduate a six months program and then jump into opening a bakery or a dessert bar or (gasp!) a bed and breakfast. I don't know if I am made up of the stuff that you need to be made up of to survive in the restaurant world or the hotel industry, and despite the brainwashing I am getting in school, I'm still pretty sure those are not the areas I want to be in. If I do this, I want to work in a small (but delightfully well stocked and equipped, of course) bakery, but not not not a restaurant.
2. Likewise, I don't really want to do a whole lot of anything outside of my own, non-money making pursuits. Maybe I should aim to marry rich.
3. I just finished reading the Hunger Games trilogy. I enjoyed it, and I was certainly in a rush to finish the books to find out what would happen, but I'm not convinced it deserves all the praise it has gotten. I will probably read it again in another few weeks after the first has set and started to fade and then will revise my opinion.
4. I went to a bellydancing class on Monday night. I felt like such a tool, but ultimately I did enjoy it. I am going back this week (assuming they are open despite the holiday). My knees were kind of tight for the rest of the week, so I will have to keep an eye out for that.
5. My first electric bill was over $100. !!! Crazy and I'm really concerned for my finances for the remainder of my stay here.
6. I will be back in NY for a weekend in the end of July for Avery's first birthday, and I will be making the cake. I'm hoping that I will have taken the wedding cake class first so that I will be able to make a neat topsy turvy! But either way, I am really looking forward to being home for a few days.
7. I have remembered how much I love seeing movies in theatres, and how much I enjoy seeing movies by myself. So far I've seen two, Jane Eyre & Priest, but I intend to see X-Men First Class, Cowboys & Aliens, and Mr. Popper's Penguins, at least.
8. I have not seen a roach in two weeks! :) :) :)
9. I want to live in Maine at some point in my life. This may come from reading too many Stephen King novels. Or it may be from the overly romantic image I have in my mind of a cold, windy beach in the winter.
10. There's a 43 year old woman from my class who calls me and invites me to go clubbing with her. I've started not answering my phone, but she isn't getting the hint.
11. There was a scary storm last night - I watched it roll in, until suddenly it was right on top of me. It was only the 3rd or 4th rain since I've been here, but it was the first really big storm. I was a little nervous, which is probably silly.
That's all for now. I am going to try to update
P!iTK a couple of times this weekend, so be ready!
