Trying to see the good side in all of this...no vet school interviews means I don't have to go buy a suit! Thank god....I HATE suit shopping and I really didn't want to have to get a suit in my current size. I'd like to think that by next year when and if I get interviews, I'll be a lot smaller.

So that's one good thing. I'm trying here!

You know, I hate to be all "ray of sunshine" here, but maybe now that your single you will have more time to focus on your studies and your experiences with vet clinics. Something that will definitely pay off should you not get into any school this year.

I'm trying too (hahha), for you. You know I've been where you are just a few short weeks ago, and my out-look on life has dramatically changed since then. You'll get there, too.

I'm hoping to get there soon! I know it seems like mega mood swings, and maybe it is, but I'm ok with that. If I come on one day and make a depressing LJ post and then the next week I'm all mary sunshine, I'm just gonna go with it. Hopefully as the weather moves toward spring too I'll just feel better and better.

And you are right...I'll have a lot more time to concentrate on what I need to do to get into vet school next time. I'd like to start volunteering at animal shelters by next Saturday. And I need to arrange some trips to the Syracuse zoo as well. I'll make that my goal for next week. :)

Who needs a suit for an interview? You sciencey people think inside the box too much...

:P

Oh, dude, it's suits alllll the way. My (potential) profession is a little more...formal than yours? I wish I didn't have to suit it up, I'd rather just wear a nice sweater top and cool pinstripe pants...something that'd show my style (and flair for color!) instead of just being so rigid and, well, suit-like. I HATE suits. Blah. But if they want suits, I'll get a suit. But I don't have to like it.

It's all about breaking the mold.

Most suit jackets women wear should be thrown into a lit trashcan.

I think women can look professional and proper without wearing a full suit. The only one I own is green suedey stuff, I've never actually worn it, I think it still has the tags on. That's what I'm talking about.

I agree about suit jackets. They usually only look good on the model (sometimes not even then) and on real women, just end up looking lumpy and weird. And ones with shoulder pads should just be burned immediately. Gross.

Plus there's not as much of a selection for them at my size. If I want to try them on, it's basically Lane Bryant and that's about it. I could check out Macys and JCPenny's, but I'm pretty sure they don't even go that high. Or if they do, the styles look like they're all for middle aged fuddy duddys. But even at LB, the suits are just WEIRD! suit jackets with only one toggle button to keep them closed?? Are you kidding me? They're usually pretty good at designing clothes with plus sized bodies in mind, but their suit jackets are usually just bizarre.

Ick. Suits. I try to avoid them at all costs, but unfortunately at my job sometimes I have to bit the bullet and wear one. The worst part is that if we're doing anything that deals with the president of the university, skirt suits are pretty much required. As much as I dislike pant suits, I HATE skirt suits. My legs aren't exactly my best asset.

And that's really cool that you're thinking of going to the Syracuse Zoo. I had no idea that Syracuse even had a zoo.

Wait, WHAT? They force you to wear skirt suits??? I would never ever in a million years wear a skirt suit. I don't even own a single pair of shoes I could wear with a skirt suit, and I probably wouldn't be willing to buy any.

Also, the Syracuse zoo is the closest one to us, I think!

Maybe I could also see if I could volunteer or shadow at the Bronx Zoo! I could stay with Rach or Mary or something for a weekend. That would be fun!

umm, I think I might be weird. I kind of like wearing suits -- I mean, I'm really glad I don't have to wear them ALL of the time, but they require so much less planning effort than "business casual" where you have to be stylish yet professional yet creative... ugh. I don't have a big enough wardrobe to do it right. Suits are just -- pick a shirt to wear underneath and GO! Plus I feel more confident and "put together"...

Anyway. The Syracuse Zoo is supposed to be amazing, right? Oooh, or you could come to Pittsburgh for a few months and work at our zoo -- DUDE, that would be SO fun!!! Plus the elephants had babies last summer and they are SO cute. You could totally live with us and we could have sangria all the time and hang out and it would be so fun and you should totally do this because it would be awesome and we would have the most fun EVER.

*breathes*

No seriously, you should totally come to Pgh.

Well, see....and I don't mean any offense at all, but you're kind of in a different boat as me when it comes to suits, namely because you're so much smaller and you don't have gigantic tits (and flab) getting in the way of everything. You look good in them and they lay right on your frame and you probably don't have to deal with things bunching and feeling like there's yards and yards of fabric getting twisted and smooshed under your suit jacket. And you most likely don't have to deal with constantly worrying about whether the damn jacket is staying closed the right way every time you shift and move and whether it's gaping or pulling weirdly or if you're about to pop a button.

When I wear a suit, I never feel confident or put-together. I feel awkward and paranoid and, well, generally uncomfortable. Now, that could just be based on my personal preferences for clothes and NOT because I'm fat and you're not like I'm assuming, but it's the best assessment I can come up with. Granted, some bigger girls must wear suits and like them ( ... )

You should totally look into coming here for the summer (or whenever)... the zoo probably does something like what you're describing (or could work with you to create some sort of program), plus you'd be able to stay with us for free so the financial burden wouldn't be as bad with the whole leave-of-absence thing. Oooh, it'd be so fun!

I will definitely contact the zoo and see if they'd be up for something like that. If they're not willing to do a long term thing, maybe I could at least arrange to shadow for a week or two!

I don't actually want to work with birds...but I'd go there and look at them!
