Indeed they can. Pop-ups and the like are often set up as portals for viruses to gain access to your computer. You'll need to act quickly, as the virus programs sometimes are set up to replicate as time goes on, much like a real virus.

It is rather funny, yes. Although I do understand certain applications for pornography, for the most part, it's a mystifying concept.

Incidentally, the blue and purple items you mentioned are colloquially referred to as "sex toys", having more specific names depending on function. Or at least I assume that's what they must be. I'd have to personally view the images in question in order to ascertain what they were, and I'd rather not, if it's all the same.
